Lost At School: Why Our Kids with Behavioral Challenges Are Falling Through the Cracks and How We Can Help Them
Author: Dr. Ross W. Greene
Truth time teachers! Every university and teacher preparation program should have a course on behavior management and this book should be the focus of that course.
Now, I feel like it’s important for me to share that I’m on page 87 of 290 currently (I take an absurd amount of notes and it’s a problem). I have learned more about student behavior in these first 87 pages than I have in 10 years in the classroom AND the 6+ years training to become a teacher.
The “Aha!” moments sprinkled on the pages of this book will change everything about how you look at, respond to, and handle students who struggle with behavior. This book even comes with a website where there’s EVEN MORE INFORMATION. https://livesinthebalance.org/
Dr. Ross Greene’s evidence-based approach is called Collaborative and Proactive Solutions (CPS) and he breaks this approach down into easily understood nuggets of knowledge with real-life scenarios to see how it’s implemented successfully.
Now, I know that I’ll say “you want this book” on all of my posts (because I love learning and I love books), but you can disregard every other book if it means you choose this one to read. That’s how unbelievably valuable I think it is. I’m actually going to push my school to do a book study on it and bring CPS into the entire school because this work matters too much to not implement.
